Terrible

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AvI have never dealt with a bank putting a hold for several days on my direct deposit passed the scheduled pay date. Serious such an inconvenience I have dealt with previous Federal credit unions but this one takes the cake. All they can say is wait wait ridiculous stop putting a hold on direct deposits. The company I work for is well known not a scam like really unnecessary having to wait days for my money. Ridiculous and they only care about their institutions. What a disgust of a company.

SSFCU made no effort to locate $18,000.00 check missing in their ATM.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I gave my grandson an $18,000.00 check which he attempted to deposit in a SSFCU ATM on 19 Nov 2020.

The machine transaction was working up and thru the point where he deposited the check whereupon the machine "quit" and reverted back to the start screen. There was no machine acknowledgement that any transaction had been in process or completed.

In the past two days multiple telephone follow-ups with SSFCU representatives revealed: 1) They had no record of this $18,000.00 check in their system. The check may be "hung up" in the ATM. 2) SSFCU takes no responsibility for the ATM machine. 3) Only Brinks could open the ATM and look for the missing check.

The Brinks people may not return to this location for as long as 10 days. 4) Sorry, but you are out-of-luck .

Obviously someone at SSFCU could contact the right person at Brinks and get someone to check out the machine immediately, if they were properly motivated. The moral to this sad story is: SSFCU is no longer a credit union who believes in and practices good customer service.

Listen, the process is the process. If it takes 10 days, then that's what it takes.

How do you know they didn't make a call and this is what they were told? Your grandson is an idiot at best. What kind of fool would make such a large deposit at ANY ATM machine. At least tell us it was one that was actually attached to the bank and not a stand-alone hence Brinks having to open it.

Look, this guy was stupid and is paying the price while you whine for him.. OK...say it..."You must work for (insert company I'm mad at)."

Poor customer service and incompetent staff

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Due to the incompetence of an employee we incurred legal costs exceeding $2,000. The Branch management team apologized and offered to retrain the employee - they said they could not reimburse us for the unnecessary costs. We wrote a letter to Mr. Laffoon, the CEO, detailing our experience and asked he consider covering our costs. He has chosen not to respond. It seems that the poor customer service culture comes from the top.

Poor service, and ethics

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My experience with Security Service Credit Union has not only been unsatisfactory but has added an insurmountable stress load to my current day life. I would not only not recommend this company to any person I come in contact with but also strongly advise the CEO look into the ethics and morals of how the company conducts business. The reason for this negative feedback all starts in January 2020. My father tragically passed at the age of 58. Being his oldest son, not only did I take care of all his final arrangements, I was in charge of his finances. I went in to my local Security Service Credit Union and spoke to a representative in mid January that expressed her condolences and ensured me that I had provided all the necessary documents they needed to freeze his accounts and send any outstanding loans to the correct department. She informed me that someone from the appropriate department would contact me within 7 business days and that the credit card and loan accounts would not accrue any further interest or late charges and that it was time for me to grieve and know that this step was in processing and I didnt need to do anything else at this point. This made me feel extremely relieved because I was overwhelmed with emotions and stress. I took 4 weeks to collect myself and still hadnt received the phone call I was told I would. So I called and got a hold of the right department, I asked to verify balances and the balances had risen, I was told this was due to interest and late charges and I was misinformed by the last person I spoke with. I spent the next 3 weeks being told I needed to wait for the company that held the life insurance policy on the loan to get back to me about information on coverages. Now were to mid March and in the midst of COVID-19, after an entire day of being told to call different life insurance companies to get information I finally get in touch with a Security Service representative that tells me the claim was approved, and they paid a partial amount of the loan, leaving a balance to be paid before the title could be released, also that they were using a credit card account my father had as an additional lien on the title. I asked about settling and was told that they would accept 70% of what was due as a settlement. My father not having an estate, life insurance, or any assets besides the RV he lived in, (which is what Im trying to obtain the title to) I felt obligated and forced into paying this out of my own pocket to preserve the only thing my father had. I told the representative I would have to call them back after speaking with family and seeing if the 70% was something we could do. Once I spoke with family we were able to come up with 55% of the amount due. This was pulling together everything we had including some of us that had been laid off due to covid-19. I called back and spoke with a manager for Security Service and let her know we could offer the 55% of the original RV loan and the credit card being used as a lien. She said she would have to escalate this to her boss for approval and would call me back the next day. When I did not receive a call back the next day, I called her the day after and left her a voicemail. I called back once every business day after that and after another 2 weeks I was finally able to reach her. By the time I reached her I had received a letter of repossession, even though I was trying to work with them on a resolution. At this point I was told that she had escalated this to her bosss boss and that it was declined and not only was it declined but they were not going to offer a 70% settlement, they would accept no less than 100% of what was due because of my offering 55% and them feeling insulted by that offer. Two days after that I had a tow company show up asking for my father and the RV. Security Service was very slow to respond to my voicemails but extremely quick to send a tow company to my home. This is the only thing my father had to his name and the only thing he took pride in and I feel as though not only did I receive poor service from Security Service Credit Union but I was lied to about interest and late fees not accruing, the account was not attended to in a timely manner by their team allowing more interest and late charges to accrue, and I was shown no compassion in a resolution to this. The company seems to be lead by greed and has no concept of creating win-win solutions for customer. I wasnt asking for anything for free, but we couldnt afford 70% of the loan, let alone 100%.

Lies Deception, and a Waste Of Time

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Looking for the worst credit union in Texas? You likely found it! Lies, deception, frustration, and waste of time sum up my experience with this lender. In specific I called to look into a clear title auto loan (against my lien free truck) on 10/10/19, and the first thing I asked was the value. went through all info... how long I've owned it, mileage all options etc. etc. Employee said I could loan $42,250 on it if approved so I went ahead and did the application, pulled credit (807 score) and sent in every document they asked for by email. Called to confirm that EVERYTHING was ready to go and fully approved at $42,250 before making the two hour trip from Lago Vista to New Braunfels. Upon arriving I sat for 45 minutes as they pulled registration etc. finally got everything done and ready to sign docs when it was discovered the first employee that took my application clicked one wrong box and marked the vehicle as New. I was 100 percent crystal clear it was not new. They wanted to go down on value to $38,xxx which I declined frustrated with the 6 hours of life they wasted. through multiple phone calls they have changed their story from it being marked new originally (which I saw with my own eyes) to it doesn't have options stated (which it does) also tried to tell me the MSRP is $42,250 when I have the $47,000 MSRP window sticker sitting in my truck! Complete BS! On a unipersonal note their phone system makes it near impossible to do business, pay payments etc. and their website is just as bad! STAY AWAY!!!

Horrible

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I started banking with ssfcu when i was stationed in colorado didnt really have any problems with them until i left the service and moved back to the east coast. Now i have nothing but problems with them. Nobody at this branch seems to know how shared branching works. I lost my debit card and had to go a WEEK without food because i couldnt access my money. The representatives would literally ARGUE with me and tell me that it was on the shared branches side that my account was locked or they would just straight up tell me they had no idea how to unlock it. I remember standing in the bank hungry, frustrated and almost in tears. When i first started recieving disablility i recieved a 10k backpay check. Ssfcu gave me all kinds of issues and since they dont have branches on the east cost i had to mail my check to get it cashed. The check got LOST IN THE MAIL. And when i was sent a new one and tried to cash it at a different bank i was told that it had already been cashed. Im not sure if they stole the money or someone else did but it looks pretty suspect to me. Also i dont get paid until really late in the afternoon which is super inconvienient and half of the time i get paid a day late. Its like this bank had made a concerted effort to be the worst bank ever. DO NOT BANK HERE IF YOU LIKE YOUR MONEY.

Scammed out of money for overdraft fees

I live in El Monte CA but still back with the branch is Colorado Springs.

Updated by user Sep 24, 2019

I even tried to do a fresh start loan and they said I have to wait 30 days with my account in the negative. I'm a veteran that gets his disability check every month on the 26th.

I have a family and I am the only provider. They don't care about military families or disabled veterans.

Original review Sep 24, 2019
I am a disabled retired veteran. I've been banking with this bank for over two years. My account was positive I made some transactions and was charged two days later on a weekday 487.00 in overdraft fees. They claim it takes 48 hours for transactions to go through. They even charged me 32.50 for 1.50 transactions. This bank is a scam do not bank with them.

Deadly situations

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Ssfcu contacts me via automated phone call to verify every gas purchase. Because gas stations pre authorize for $1 then charge for gas purchased. I live in rural areas which are FM roads 75 mph tring to answer a prompt type call while either driving 75mph or pull into a grass or mud ditch to deal with the call. Ssfcu says sorry nothing we can do, either answer or we put a hold on your card. Then after the call i get a txt msg asking to verify if fraud or not which i must answer in a few minutes or less. Which does not help because again i'm on a FM road with no shoulder to pull over. Either answer or card is frozen.

Resolved: Do Not Deposit Cash at Any Automated Teller Machine

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Sep 20, 2018

Cash was deposited into my account.

Updated by user Sep 20, 2018

As of this evening, 9-20-18, the missing cash was deposited into my account.

Original review Sep 19, 2018
On 9-19-18 at about 9:00pm I attempted to deposit cash into my account via the automated teller at 6502 Everhart Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. I had recently been medically laid up for two weeks and was going to to use my "mattress money" to pay my bills since I had not got paid.

The ATM accepted my debit card and asked me into which account to deposit the cash and I indicated checking. The ATM displayed for me to insert my cash with no more than 30 bills and I inserted 30 $100 bills into the machine, yes; $3000! The ATM displayed than it was having a problem reading some of the bills and stated that it was going to return my cash. I waited and it ejected a receipt stating that it was having a problem returning my cash and to contact my financial institution.

The cash was not deposited into my account. Long story short I was told by the branch manager that they are not scheduled to audit the ATM until next Monday - 7 days away - and that they could do nothing for me. I am out $3000 and my bills are my problem until they sort it out. If I had been told that there was a chance, however small, that I would not have access to money that I entrusted to this financial institution, I would not have placed into their machine.

I have been a member of SSFCU since 1992 and, until now, have heralded the benefits of being a member.

How can I help you has turned into there's nothing I can do for you. It may be time for me to reconsider what is the benefit of remaining with SSFCU.

Just had the same problem.. Deposited $400 into a teller machine at SSFCU in Springville, Utah and the machine returned one of the $50 bills and said it was having a problem reading the bill.

Tried inserting it different ways 3 times, then the machine's screen flickered a few times and then began shutting down. Re-started 5 minutes later with an 'temporarily out of service' screen, kept my $350 and didn't credit my account.

Really annoyed at this point. Teller machine company was of no help, and SSFCU simply took my info and filed a report...

Insurance fees

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Charged $3500 for a forced placed insurance fee, which is ridiculous. Traded the car in, they refused to refund the remaining balance of the policy that would not be used unti the car was fully paid off. So basically pay them all of it and then wait a month for them to send the money back. Again makes no sense to pay it if they’re just going to send it back. Always got the run around when calling their insurance line, branch location reps and managers were no help, they got the same answers I already had. Even sent over a policy for the vehicle, wasn’t enough.

Has anybody else had difficulty in trying to resolve Financi

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The banker Jennifer in San Antonio Texas and I spent more than three hours on three way calling to Sprint to try to resolve this issue still too no resolve Security Service Credit Union is still siding with Sprint that Sprint is correct and saving your banking information attacking your account without notification and then the bank says that Sprint has the right to do so.

How can it be right for a business to hold and save critical banking information. Then on a later date use that banking information to take money from any person's account without notifying that person that this is potentially going to happen?

Corrupt Financial Institution

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Seriously folks. SSFCU is not an honest business. Sudden and involuntary "upgrades" of no-fee checking accounts to checking accounts with monthly fees. Fast and loose with personal/private account holder information. Lots of double-speak and fee schedules and policies in writing that are either applied or not applied -- depending upon the season. Lack of transparency. This financial institution seems to not only be very sloppy -- there appears to be a singular lack of institutional integrity. Do you really want to trust your family finances to a company like that? SSFCU IS A "MUST TO AVOID" - that's my advice. If you decide to join them after reading this recommendation - don't ever say you weren't warned!
